National NPETE Partners

NPETE is successful because of the diverse collaborations and partnerships it has forged. These partners and collaborations make NPETE what it is, and bestows on it the resources needed to address the critical environmental issues that lay ahead.

NPETE’s primary goal is to create and maintain local, regional and national public-private partnerships to support the network of NPETE member colleges to deliver quality, relevant, and up-to-date environmental education and training.

Advanced Technology Environmental Education Center (ATEEC)ATEEC

ATEEC is a national center funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Program. The vision of ATEEC is to collaborate in the creation of a world class network of community and technical college environmental programs which link with high schools and prepare high school students for entry into these two-year college programs. ATEEC has three broad goals that guide all efforts of the organization:

  1. Strengthen science, math, and technical curriculum and instructional materials that support environmental technology education for all students.
  2. Strengthen the nation’s environmental technology programs through the provision of professional development opportunities for two-year colleges and secondary school educators.
  3. Strengthen environmental technology education by providing support services for program improvement.

American Association of Community Colleges (AACC)aacc

The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) has been an aggressive partner in the development of the NPETE program since the beginning of the national partnership concept. Representing over 1200 of the 1325 community, technical, and junior colleges in the U.S; AACC has assisted in the NPETE organizational development and encouraged its college membership to participate in the NPETE regional networks.

Hazardous Materials Training and Research Institute(HMTRI)

The Hazardous Materials Training and Research Institute (HMTRI) was established in 1987 by two Iowa community colleges that have long been active in environmental health and safety education and training. The purpose of the Institute is to promote worker protection and the maintenance of a clean and safe environment through education and training. Sponsor colleges are the Eastern Iowa Community College District, headquartered in Davenport, Iowa, and Kirkwood Community College, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. NPETE has partnered with HMTRI on the Advanced Technology Environmental Education Center (ATEEC), the Environmental Careers Center (ECC) and the Community College Consortium for Health and Safety Training (CCCHST).

National Environmental Safety & Health Training Association (NESHTA)neshta

NESHTA is a non-profit society for educators and trainers, most specializing in environmental, safety, occupational health, and emergency response fields.  Founded in 1977 as the National Environmental Training Association, Inc. (NETA), with support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Office of Water.  NESHTA is now a group of like-minded training professionals dedicated to the promotion of learning facilitation through effective training.  NPETE’s Executive Director currently serves as NESHTA’s Executive Director under a management services agreement.
