Applications are due September 9, 2026.  Applicants will be notified of acceptance no later than September 10, 2026

Program Outcome Expectations:
Participants complete a 2-day Train-the-Trainer Program and are prepared to deliver respiratory protection certifications for public and private responders and workers. Curriculum includes:

• Select and identify respirator types and protection factors
• Describe fit test and NIOSH certification and testing requirements
• Describe medical evaluation requirements for respirator use
• Describe proper respirator use, seal check procedures, and cartridge types
• Recognize conditions that affect respirator performance
• Perform respiratory protection equipment inspection, maintenance, and care
• Describe compliance with OSHA standards and respiratory protection program elements
• Describe hierarchy of controls and employer/employee responsibilities
• Differentiate between required use and voluntary use; describe training requirements

Prerequisites upon Acceptance

Accepted applicants must complete the following before attending:

• A signed letter from a licensed physician confirming medical clearance to wear respiratory protection (must be submitted to NPETE prior to arrival)
• Complete and submit the NPETE Medical Questionnaire (included in application)
• Complete the NPETE Respiratory Protection Online Module (log-in information sent after acceptance; notify Tim Hunter at thunter@nationalpete.org upon completion)

• A non refundable $40 Registration Fee (link provided upon acceptance)

Logistics (Details will be provided to Accepted Participants)

Training Site:  Scott Community College (EHS Training Center), 500 Belmont Road, Bettendorf, IA 52722. Note: some GPS may navigate to the old entrance. If you arrive at the high school, continue further down Belmont Road. Proceed past the Continuing Ed Center and park in Parking Lot G. Training is in the warehouse-style building.

Schedule:  Arrive by Monday, October 5th. Training begins Tuesday, October 6th at 8:00 AM and runs through Wednesday, October 7th. Training hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (may extend to 6:00 PM). Departure no earlier than 5:00 PM on October 7th.

Dress:  Casual and field-appropriate. Closed-toe shoes required. PPE provided. Bring: rain gear, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, mosquito repellant, water bottle. All activities proceed rain or shine.

Travel:  Travel is the participant’s responsibility. NPETE reimburses up to $825.00 for air/travel and $300.00 for car rental/ground transportation upon successful completion. Participants are responsible for costs even if they withdraw and must cancel or change reservations.

Lodging:  Home2 Suites by Hilton, 975 Utica Ridge Place, Bettendorf, IA 52722 | PH: 563-345-1130. Full details provided in acceptance letter. Participants make their own reservations using a link provided upon acceptance for the block rate. NPETE covers a maximum of 3 nights at the NPETE Block Rate of $124/night++. Lodging outside the training window or for companions is the participant’s cost.

Meals:  Reimbursed at the GSA per diem rate for a maximum of 4 days, including travel meals. Submit reimbursement form within 30 days of the Institute. Forms provided at training.

Professional Behavior:  Failure to comply with professional conduct standards may result in withdrawal of reimbursements and/or expulsion. All participants must: attend all sessions, respect teammates and presenters, avoid side conversations during presentations, follow PPE/safety requirements, be punctual, and comply with NPETE’s Sexual Harassment Policy.

Reporting Requirement: Active members are required to report training delivered in their communities. This is done by logging training into the NPETE Data Management System (DMS) — including number of students trained, hours of instruction, and course types. NPETE reports this data directly to NIEHS as part of HWWTP program compliance. Members may charge for courses offered in their local area.
