The IBSMART 2.5 Day Institute for Spill Response Training

Institute for Basic Spill Management and Response Training (IBSMART)

Held Annually at Barton CCC, Kansas

During this Program Instructors are prepared through a 2.5-day Program called the Institute for Basic Spill Management and Response Training (IBSMART) to deliver required certifications for public and private responders and workers including:

  • 24 hr Industrial Emergency Response
  • Spill Response

Instructors use CCCHST curriculum to train workers and responders in their local area and report to NPETE the number of courses they provide, for which they may be provided a small reimbursement.  NPETE reports these numbers to NIEHS.  CCCHST members may charge for the courses offered in their local area. Instructors reporting numbers must return every two years for Instructor Refresher training offered either at live conferences or through NPETE StayFreshers via zoom.

In 2021, membership numbered 131 training organizations with 169 trainers in 32 states and two U.S. territories.

CCCHST is sponsored by the National Partnership for Environmental Technology Education (NPETE) headquartered in South Portland, Maine.   NPETE is an affiliated council of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and the only council whose core mission is environmental, health, safety and security training.   The NPETE network of community, technical, U.S. territory and tribal college members for whom they provide faculty development programs, workshops and institutes. This program is supported with grant funding from the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences.
