Hazardous Waste Worker Training

Military/CCCHST OSHA Classes

Classes are totally free for veterans, active duty as well as their family members. The classes are also open for active (in good standing) Community College Consortium of Health and Safety Trainers, (CCCHST) members. The training is paid for through a federal grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, NIEHS and held and managed by the National Partnership for Environmental Technology Education, NPETE. The classes are taught by Barton Community College (BCC)/Great Plains OSHA Education Center (GPOEC).

Upon successful completion students will receive an OSHA completion certificate and college credit at no cost from BCC/GPOEC. OSHA classes are currently taught through a virtual classroom using “ZOOM”. Students must enroll using an enrollment link provided by BCC. Students must attend the entire class (no missed time) with video/camera and audio on. There will be monitors in the class as required by OSHA to ensure students comply. These are live classes not self-paced online classes.

Students must enroll using a link which will contain a spreadsheet listing the classes being offered the next 2-3 months. Each class listed will contain a link used to enroll in that class. Enrollment must be completed NLT noon CST the Thursday prior to the start of the class. Each class has its own distinct link so an enrollment must be completed prior to each class. Once enrolled you will receive an email from BCC with the ZOOM link and additional class information the Friday prior to the class start date.

The class link spreadsheet is updated every month so you will need to save the link it if you plan to take future classes.

If the link doesn’t work and you are using a military email address it is because of the military firewall and you will need to provide a civilian email or sometimes you can just forward the email to your civilian address, and it will work.

The Trainer classes (OSHA 500 and OSHA 501) have prerequisites which include completing an application and submitting to Barton CC/Great Plains OSHA Education Training Center for approval. Questions on the 500/501 classes or prerequisites can be directed to WeberL@bartonccc.edu.

The spreadsheet in the link will be updated every month so be sure to keep it. We can only enroll in a few classes at a time.

Any questions about classes or schedule may be directed to the NPETE HWWT Program Coordinator Bill Nash, oshhazmat@gmail.com, 785-341-2552.
